Archive

Our community archive consists of hundreds of photographs, maps, news clippings, audio & video recordings, geographic records and other items and we are adding to it all the time.

It is held either digitally or in the Pattern Hall at Foundry Park and is accessible, by appointment, for everyone undertaking historical research or those with simply an interest in the history of Charlestown.

Find out move about the type of material we hold below.

We plan to make the archive as fully searchable online as possible. Please bear with us while we work out how best to fund and do this.

All questions, requests and donations for the archive should be sent to: curator@charlestownhistorygroup.com.

Geographic Gazetter

We are building a geographic gazetter of the village, listing the history of every building and every corner of the village.

Maps and Documents

Maps and plans of the village going back to the 1700s as well as documents and letters between owners, adventurers and employees.

Photographs

Our archive consists of 1000s of photographs from the earliest days of photography to the turn of the millenium including some very rare and previously unseen. Many of our photos are also available on our Facebook page.

Researched and Other Material

More detailed articles and information provide a further insight into our history as well as other items such as video and audio clips.

Indexed and fully searchable

From clay and fishing to ships and industry, all our archive is referenced by subject areas and can be searched by key words making whatever interests you have easy to find.
